Vase Thy Self!

I recently got some curly willow to fill a slim green vase, a gift from my sister, and man what a nice addition it made to the previously bare corner of my aesthetically-neglected kitchen! First things first - get yourself some curly willow. I found mine at a fresh flower shop around the corner from my place. It’s inexpensive, is delightfully colorful with shades of red and yellow (you can get it in green too), and it makes such a dramatic impact on a space. Second, have some fun finding interestingly designed vases. There’s so much room for creativity when you select a vase - go for it! Vary your selections and go with what grabs your attention and adds to your room. So some suggestions…

Twist VaseThe Twist Vase. Negative space oh how I love thee! Made of polished aluminum, this shiny and sophisticated accent piece contributes a sense of motion and vibrance to your modern space. Fill one side of the vase as pictured and introduce a bit of asymmetry to create a directional flow through the room.

Sprig VaseAnd for some simplistic fresh white, there’s the Sprig Vase. The slender and curvy shape of this vase will certainly spice up that bare shelf, while the white glossy finish and delicate olive or cocoa painted sprigs will soften things up. This vase is the perfect way to calm down your small space that seems busy with personal belongings. Remember, repeat repeat to create consistency in a space. These are on sale so get a few!

Confetti Paper VaseAnd for a bit of creativity add these colorful vases to create a focal point on any piece of furniture. Handmade using newspapers from all over the world the Confetti Paper Vases are also resin lined so they can actually hold water and cut flowers.

Oval ArtGlass VaseSlender, elegant and stunning, the Oval ArtGlass Vase is geometry revisited. Made of frosted glass with a metal base, this vase is for those who love to love their things. All it needs is some soft lighting and some beautiful flowers to truly make a statement. And it’s a great price too!

Glass Egg VaseInspired by Easter eggs, but beautiful anytime of year, the hand blown Glass Egg Vase made by Brooklyn artist John Pomp is a minimalist burst of fresh color. A great example of simple contemporary design, the Egg Vase brightens a space adding a pop of color.

Vases are great gifts. The gift of a vase (empty or otherwise) is a thoughtful way to accentuate the place of your someone special and give them something they may not get for themselves. They’ll be thinking of you every time they see it too!

I’m a fan of curly willow myself. It’s dramatic, with minimal cost. If you are looking for more information on care, cut and quality of curly willow, take a look at www.branchesarethenewflowers.blogspot.com
