Accessorizing with Colorful Glass

Incorporating accessories in to a space adds style, personality and with these three pieces, vivid color.

Consuler VaseA lot can be learned about people by noticing the accessories in their home, which by no means is the ultimate judge of someone’s character, but it can be a clue. The objects a person has on his or her shelves, tables and countertops represent an appreciation for art, a collector’s passion, sentimental stories, a love of nature, tales of travel, academic interests, and on and on. Accessories also offer insight into how much a person prioritizes aesthetic and what their style preference is. Thankfully with good design becoming available to a broader range of income levels and do-it-yourselfing turning into an all-ages past-time, a neighborly competition, and cable television’s dream come true, people are taking more risks to express themselves and add visual flare.

Glass pieces hold a particular mood and style enhancing quality. There’s something about the sparkle and fragility of glass that instantly adds sophistication and beauty to a room. The obvious connection is that you won’t find cool looking glass pieces where there are young children nearby, or at least not within their reach, nor will you find them where there are childish adults nearby (which is not to say that I don’t aspire to be more child-like everyday, but I also love my i’m-a-big-kid-now lifestyle).

Stem VaseThe three pieces selected are particularly artful and colorful, for two reasons. They are each uniquely designed and visually intriguing. Too (or perhaps, especially), the homes of the most color commitment deficient residents can benefit from a bright chromatic piece to pep up the surroundings. Remember, accessories can be moved, grouped, stored, recycled, regifted, rediscovered, reorganized, and don’t forget rewarding! So live a little!

The beautiful Consuler Multi-color Vase (top) is a stunning sculptural piece in swooping red, orange, yellow and blue. Handmade by Seattle designer Asa Consuler, this piece pops with color, with or without flowers. A great gift for someone special.

The Stem Vase (right) by notNeutral, I discovered at one of my favorite stores, Elsewares. Two shades of green abstract stem shapes adorn this clear slender vase. With several of these vases in a space, they will add a uniformity of texture and color to the variety of bouquets you might choose. Funky, whimsical (this Wednesday’s dose), green and only $34 - you know I love the green!

Forati VaseThe most extravagant of these vases is the Venini Forati Vase (left) by Italian designer Fulvio Bianconi. The absolutely gorgeous translucent blue glass reminds me of the clearest most pristine ocean water. I love the crisp modern edges of the perimeter. And then there’s the opaque coral colored ‘holes’ that are pleasantly irregularly shaped, slightly strange at first glance, and a gorgeous color contrast to the blue.
