Dream a little dream, in my little corner of the world…
So here’s a sophisticated and cozy reading nook, preferably near a window of some sort - overlooking the busy street below, a quaint urban rooftop garden, or a luscious yard - your choice. The materials, lighting and simplicity of the pieces I’ve put together make for a comfortable escape in your small space.
First, the inviting reclining of the microfiber Annex Chaise. This lounger from CB2, the Crate & Barrel off-shoot, is reasonably priced and easy to care for. My pick is the creamy ivory, though it comes in a charcoal too, the mouthwatering vanilla suggests a bit more luxury which is what I was looking for.
Now you’re sitting, book in one hand, latte in the other, but those ice cold piggies (usually kept warm by the boy) need some looking after in your corner of blissful solitude. I would’ve liked to have gone with the 100% cashmere blanket, but I splurged on the pillow below, so the 80% brushed wool, 20% cashmere Pewter Throw, is plenty elegant at a fifth the cost.
Any seating area should be nicely complimented by adequate lighting that doesn’t over power the space, but instead establishes the mood and illuminates what you wish to see. The Chicago Table Lamp is the perfect piece for small niches in contemporary spaces. It was designed by Blu Dot, a collaboration of three art and arch. college friends, whose motivation is that design should be affordable, and whose 40+ designs have been internationally recognized. This simple table with airy slender steel legs, an open rectangular shelf that exhibits the structure of the piece and is great for stashing mags and books, and the attached lamp with a cool translucent cylindrical shade, bring just the right amount of warm light and storage to the space.
To tie everything together with an organic and sculptural flare is the gorgeous Pillow Seabloom by Oromono founder and designer Kristy Anne Powell. The intent of this Amsterdam design studio is to bring 3-D texture to interior textile design adding structure, shape and form. Only 100% natural fibers are used insuring the highest quality and comfort (a.k.a. no weird, itchy, scratchy and/or toxic junk). Available in a few other color options, the pillows are hand made to your specifications in linen and wool fabrics.
