Wallpaper-By-Numbers
Remember the paint-by-numbers kits as a kid? I loved those! They came in a box with two or three pictures on some kind of cardstock, little-bitty cups of acrylic paint that if you weren’t really careful lifting the cap, paint would end up everywhere, and that trusty plastic brush with plastic bristles. And don’t forget the diagram to clue you in to what colors correspond to what number. Not exactly your idea of modern design? Well check this out…
This hump day’s dose of whimsy takes that fond memory, enlarges the images for stand-back value and repeats the pattern over a large roll of paper that you can apply to your wall - genius! Wallpaper-By-Numbers is the creation of UK artist Jenny Wilkinson. It’s a totally fresh idea whether you go for a section of the wall, corner to corner, or an entire room. The graphic quality of the designs with the little numbers all over look original painted or untouched, so it can be a work-in-progress and still look fabulous.
Think outside the lines and ignore the numbers to add your own personal touch - really, how often do you get to let your imagination go on a wall? An entirely blank canvas can be intimidating though, so instead use the Wallpaper-By-Numbers design to get the juices flowing and then be creative. Remember - there are no rules.
Several designs are available via contact at 2Jane like the Gerbera design (top) and the Hammerhead Sharks design (left). The folks at 2jane suggest hosting a Wallpaper-By-Numbers party, which is a great idea. You provide the cocktails, your friends personalize your decor.
Target also now carries the Gerbera design (best price I’ve seen!).
