Dramatic, prismatic stripes
When you’re craving vibrant, vivid color these three pieces are sure to fill the void. Though, the key here is to think “accent furnishings” unless you’re going for an updated version of the Half-Baked set.
The design and craftsmanship of the IO Lamp, Phuzion Glass Table and the Rainbow Chair are each unique in their own way. Utilizing one of these in your space is a fun way to add a creative and whimsical focal point that is sure to grab attention and show off your playful side.
The IO Lamp, designed last year by industrial designer and glass blower Tony Wurman, is made entirely of EVA plastic, a meltable, flexible, moldable plastic - the same stuff used in hot glue. He’s pioneered the use of this material to create glasslike, reflective and very colorful pieces that are uncommon as well as unbreakable. The IO Lamp, named after the most colorful moon of Jupiter, is handmade so none of them are exactly the same.
Created by Orfeo Quagliata, a glass artist since the age of 12, the Phuzion Glass Table is also one of a kind. An awesome looking side table, handmade in Mexico, this piece has a stainless steel cube-shaped base and a top made of brightly colored opaque glass. Each one of the Phuzion tables is hand signed by the artist - the mark of a true original. I think seeking out original pieces - pieces that have a story and a history - is a very rewarding way to invest in the designs you add to your home. Your place gains personality when your pieces have personality.
And then there’s the Cappellini Rainbow Chair designed by Patrick Norguet. A very versatile designer out of Paris, Norguet has designed windows for such fashion elites as Louis Vuitton, Givenchy and Christian Dior. The Rainbow Chair was his first big break when it was picked up by Italian furniture company, Cappellini, and it’s quite an awesome creation made with colored plates of acrylic resin joined by ultrasound. Ultrasound! The finish is so smooth and shiny and the color, electric. This chair is sure to be museum bound, and could be house bound if you can swing 10G’s.
