First the good news: This, the Mikasa Millennium flatware series, is freakin’ cool. Made of durable, easy to clean stainless steel they are affordable as well as stunning. These very capable eating utensils effectively bring food from a dish to a mouth, but it’s not their utility I’m obsessing over. They’re great looking! A unique flatware series with tapered handles, very smooth lines, an unusual pressed flat design, chiseled edges and asymmetrical notches, this set has a very contemporary aesthetic. And yet, looking at the forks, there’s something almost prehistoric about them.

A cohesive collection, the Millennium series reminds me of typography. Like a typeface there is a uniform aesthetic across all the pieces, that though different, resemble one another.

Now, the bad news: The collection has been discontinued. What really sucks about that is that I want them - very badly. So I suppose it’s time I get in touch with those who love me and give a little nudge nudge, because I don’t think these will last very long.
