Light is blooming!
The new Bloom Pot at Design Within Reach is an absolute riot! They’ve gone and made a planter that has LEDs in it - four of them actually. You can put whatever you want into the pot and it glows a crisp white.
Indoors they’re a great way to add ambient light to a room, which I’m very partial to. I really have a thing against overhead light fixtures. Ask anyone I’ve ever lived with and they’ll tell you what a pest I could be when it came to those things. It’s just so sterile feeling to me when everything is top lit by ugly diffused light. And fluorescents - don’t even get me started on fluorescents - they’re for schools, jails, libraries and hospitals - not homes.
What I’m getting at here is, an opportunity to add light to a space in a way that is creative, unexpected, and beautiful is not something to pass up.
And did I mention the balcony scenario? How many people do you know who have twisted, draped, stapled or hung a strand of Christmas lights on their balcony just to get some light outside that’s kinda festive and not too bright? [hand raised] A Bloom Pot with a tropical palm, some draping ferns, or some tall grasses in it would certainly add a little swanky ambiance to your next sunset cocktail party.
